It dates back to the times of the great caravans of the biblical age with their cargoes of silks and spices. Think even further back to prehistoric man trading shells and salt with distant tribes. Trade exists because one group or country has a supply of some commodity or merchandise that is in demand by another. And as the world becomes more and more technologically advanced, as we shift toward one-world modes of thought, international trade becomes more and more rewarding, both in terms of profit and personal satisfaction.Here at Down East International Trade Company (DITC), we pride ourselves on opening the doors of global commerce to small and medium sized businesses by bridging the gap between the supplier and buyers in foreign markets. DITC has positioned itself as both an Export Management Company (EMC) and an Export Trade Company (ETC) and we operate in either capacity depending on the needs of our clientIn the EMC capacity, we work directly for our client (i.e. manufacturer or supplier), or his exclusive distributor/manager for international sales, as a marketing and screening provider and will search for and locate overseas buyers-for-resale and/or qualified distributors/sales representatives. Our objective is to function as an extension of the clients existing in-house sales efforts.Under our ETC capacity, DITC performs in a fashion similar to that previously described, except for a diminished principal relationship, and business is typically conducted on a case-by-case or ad-hoc basis. It is more a sourcing function for the buyer and the seller.
