I've been in business selling at a local flea market (an outdoor marketplace) for the past 4 years. I deal in t-shirts and baseball caps with personalized artwork, which I mainly do as air-spray or embroidered art. My customers are mainly local people who live in my hometown. I run the business only on weekends with my wife and two sons (teenagers) . I lease a vendor's space at the flea market every weekend. I have my own air-spray supplies and equipment, whereas I lease an embroidery machine and software. I have been successful because people always change their wardrobe and want unique designs. To save money I mail-order all my supplies in bulk, such as paints, needles, thread, etc. My customers have been very happy with work, and I get lots of repeat customers. Many of them are sports fans who like unique sports-themed designs.
