Patent No. 5,127,687 - In addition to the earlier enhancements described above, this patent addresses a critical feature of the Intermodal II, which addresses the shoulder design of both the bolt shank and the corresponding shoulder in the locking case. The matching shoulders greatly interfere with ones ability to drive the bolt and locking body through the plastic shroud. Tampering attempts of this nature will cause the plastic shroud and flange to crack, which will clearly reveal the event.
Patent No. 5,005,883 - The patent pertains to the special design of the locking cases frangible, plastic cover. Its outer surfaces possess adjacent grooves that enhance its inherent brittleness toe specifically reveal tampering attempts. Other, weakened areas on the housings exterior increase its frangible brittleness. Two large, flat surfaces provide sufficient space for larger letters, logos and/or bar coding than most traditional high security bolt seals. The composition of the ABS plastic is specifically formulated to reveal tampering attempts. They can be seen as apparent fractures, blushing, or other visually notable characteristics on one or more surface areas of the plastic, locking case. Theyre readily apparent as a visible and discernable color change or as an alteration of the outer peripheries of the plastic cover. A brittle appendage of the open end of the plastic covering forms a 1/8 long shroud, which guards the primary area where an attempted tampering event could be expected. It prevents the insertion of a tool or shim to disengage the union of the bolt and locking case. The cracking, blushing or fracturing of the shroud will be accentuated.
Patent No. 4,802,700 This patent describes a steel locking body whose cylindrical grooves align with an annular-grooved bolt. A split spring (c-shaped o-ring) is received in the lock body groove, which expands and contracts as outside forces are exerted against it. If unauthorized individuals attempt to remove the bolt, the ring will continually engage itself within the lock-body groove. Even if the Intermodal locking case is spun many times over, the locking case will not spin off as others are inclined to do.
