Because it was designed to be carried on a soldiers pack, it is only 19.7 long and weighs only 26.6oz. Include a Cordura sheath with an extra wide belt loop made of 1 ? wide black military webbing for the total package.
The Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel includes a rugged blade which was doubled in thickness to 2mm and is heat treated, making it one tough blade. The hardwood handle of the Special Forces Shovel assures a long life for this tool. A Best Glide employee tells a story about his shovel being run over with a truck and showing only minor scratches.
The Special Forces Shovel is modeled after the original Soviet Spetsnaz shovel. Of course, Cold Steel made some improvements. This small survival shovel is sharpened on three edges so that it can be used as a light axe.
