Uses:-Dried flowers of Chamomile are important constitutents of herbal teas. As a medicine, flower have been used for centuries as popular remedies against fever, indigestiobn, intestinal pain and as a mild yonic. The essential oil is used in high grade perfumes, facecream and flavouring of fine liquors. The essential oil has expectorant, carminative, sedative and diuretic propertiese. The oil of Roman Chamomile has the similar uses as Geman Chamomile.
The important constituents of blue oil are azulene, alpha- bisabolol and farnesene etc. Azulene content in oil may very from 1-15%, the average being 6%. The oil produced in India usually contains more than 3% of azulene.

Physico-Chemical Properties:-Essential oil of M Chamomile is deep blue in colour and possess strong characteristic odour and bitter flavour. It is more or less viscous liquid. The oil, if exposed to light and air turns gradually to green and finally brown. The important properties of oil are.
For the production of blue oil, dried flowers are steam distilled because the distillation of flowers requires high pressure which can be managed only with the distillayion stills connected with a boiler. Cohobatoin process should invariably be applied to improve the recovery of oil as certain constituents of oil are soluble in water. Chamomile oil froms crystals and has a deposit and revolves inside the condensor. Therefore, it is advisable to stop the flow of cool water into the condensor from time to so as to raise the temperature of of condensor and to reliquify the oil deposite.
