"My philosopy is preservation and education," Silvio says. "We stand to learn so much from history... and those who created it. As time goes by, there is an ever decreasing number of American Veterans, Racers, and everyday riders. Their knowledge and experiences are dying every day. It is my goal to capture and preserve these precious memories and relics from our countries past for future generations to come." (Did I mention that Mike is only 32 years old?)
I had an opportunity to share some "rare" downtime with Mike, after he let me tear up the freshly cut lawn on an original 1936 Indian flat track racer. We sat on the sprawling porch next to a 1947 police servi-car and talked about the new facility. Incidentally, the porch alone is worth the trip. I soon found muself healed from the strains of civilization by the babbling creek that surrounds the property, and the cool, fresh country air.
If rows and rows of pristine museum quality restores motorcycles is what you are after, then this may not be your place. However, if you are interested in the "real McCoy", then put this on your list of destinations.
With architecture and detailing reminiscent of an early pre-war facility, Cyclemos Motorcycle Museum captures you before you even enter the door. Traditional stucco and prairie detailing create an atmosphere of true Southern comfort and style. The "gift shop" is adorned with what one would have typically found in a forties or fifties era dealership, and every square inch is covered with some sort of motorcycle goodie of significant age.
Nestled in the middle of Tennessee's most picturesque mountains is the town of Red Boiling Springs, home to Cyclemos Motorcycle Museum. Every road leading to this quaint little mountain town, known for its historic bed and breakfasts, winds through rich farm land and beautiful mountain ranges. Not only is Cyclemos Motorcycle Museum the only motorcycle museum in the state, the local riding is the best that Tennessee has to offer. Stay over night and enjoy the hospitable accommodations of any of the three Historic Bed and Breakfast facilities in town. 32 year old Mike Silvio, owner of Cyclemos Motorcycle Museum, has been involved with antique motorcycles since the age of 14, when he inherited his great uncle's unrestored 1936 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead. Besides the original paint '36 Knucklehead, the motorcycle collection includes a vast array of American motorcycles dating back to 1915. In 2003, Mike created a vintage clothing company that offers a selection of clothing and accessory items from the very beginnings of the spirit. It is certain that a lot of what you will find in his wonderful store cannot be found anywhere else! This is without a doubt not your typical independent shop with an overabundance of chrome gadgets and bolt-on Harley accessories that one would typically find dressing the walls of a motorcycle shop. You truly step back in time when you pass through the threshold of his new facility.
