In Tiruvallur district, mostly women are involved in dairy farming activities. Since milk is a perishable commodity, sale of milk in the village is limited.  It is sold to the milk man at lower rate. Similarly, the cattle by products like dung and urine are wasted. In addition to this use of allopathic medicines to cattle increased the cost of production of milk. These are all the reasons for unprofitable dairy farming. Value addition of milk, dung and urine along with adoption of ethno-veterinary practices will be helpful to the woman farmers to run the farm profitably in addition to creation of additional employment. In value addition, milk can be converted into carrot enriched milk drink in house by using cooker and juice extractor and it does not involve huge investment. Urine can be value added into panchagavya by using available utensils in the house. Dung can be converted into vermicompost by introducing earthworms. Present rate of milk is Rs. 7 per litre of milk can be increased to Rs. 37.50 per litre by converting it into carrot enriched milk drink. Urine can be converted into panchagavya and can be sold at the rate of Rs. 40 per litre. Dung can be made into vermicompost and sold in at the rate of Rs. 5 per kilo gram. Mastitis is common disease to the cattle during rainy days. To cure it through allopathic medicines, Rs. 1500/- is required. This amount can be saved by following ethno-veterinary practices.
