This new compositeembodies the properties and merits of both natural wood and plastic materials. Itcan be processed with traditional wood working methods: sawing. Planning,bending and bluing: nails and scews can be applied. WPC looks and feels likenatural wood, moreover, it has the advantage over natural lumber in its longerdurability, warp/crack=free, fire resistance, water and rot resistance, as wellas the advantage over pure plastics in its dimensional stability, endurance,weather resistance, creeping resistance in higher temperature and tenacity inlower temperature.
Compared withtraditional wood and plastics, wood and bio fiber plastic composite is arelatively new material. It contains bio fibers and plastics: wood waste,straw, hulls of crops and thermoplastics. Based on the technology of macromoleculeinterfacing and modification of plastic properties, the bio fibers flour andplastics are compounded with certain additives and then undergo specificmethods of processing to become a multipurpose, recyclable material in a widerange of applications.
Wood-plasticcomposites behave like wood using conventional woodworking tools. At the sametime, they are extremely moisture-resistant. There is little or no waterpresent, thus increasing resistance to rot. Wood-plastic composites are alreadywidespread in outdoor use for decking, cladding, park benches, etc. There isalso a growing market for potential indoor uses such as door frames, trim andfurniture.
