The EOS 500D is powered by proprietary DIGIC 4 Digital Image Processor, which possesses high algorithm power capable of processing massive and complex image data in a much shorter time span. The increase in overall performance not only brings forth speedily start-up time and quicker response time, but also the quality of image processing. With this superb power, the EOS 500D is able to carry out the Analog-to-Digital (A/D) conversion process in 14-bit, even at the high image resolution of 15.1-Megapixel. The inclusion of the 14-bit A/D conversion means that the EOS 500D can record up to 16,384 colors per channel and thus allows the camera to produce images with richer, finer and more accurate gradations of tones and colors. This is ideal for shooting outdoors where subtle hue changes in skin tone, sky, water or foliage can really add to an image.
Thanks to the power of DIGIC 4, the EOS 500D offers the highest ISO speed at its class up to ISO 12800. True-to-life images are assured even shooting in severely under-lit environment without using flash. Furthermore, the EOS 500D offers an advanced noise reduction function at High ISO speed setting, allowing manual setting of a 4-level noise reduction to Standard, Strong, Low or Disabled. This leaves the creative control to the photographers for ideal results.
The EOS 500D incorporates unique 15.1-Megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor, high-resolution and sharp images in fine details are guaranteed. The newly designed sensor employs the
improved manufacturing process that effectively reduces noise and enhances the dynamic range.
