Pashmina shawls are the most luxurious, softest, warmest, lightestfibre shawls and stoles in the world, also known as cashmere in thewest. The fine wool comes from the remote region of Tibet. It
ishand-woven by skilled Kashmir craftsmen in to wonderful shawls.
Pashmina yarn is spun from the hair of the ibex found in the highlandsof Ladakh, at 14,000 ft above sea level. Although pure pashmina isexpensive, the cost is sometimes brought down by blending it
withrabbit fur or with wool. It is on pashmina shawls that Kashmir's mostexquisite embroidery is executed, sometimes covering the entiresurface, earning it the name of 'jamawar'. A Jamawar shawl
can, byvirtue of the embroidery, increase the value of a shawl threefold.Shahtoosh, from which the legendary 'ring shawl' is made, is incrediblylight, soft and warm.Each shawl takes many days to
complete.
It goes toseveral processes through hand weaving, dyeing and finishing. So everyshawl is unique. The finest form of hand embroidery called needleworkis done by the skilled artisans taking months to
make one shawl,captivating the beauty of the Kashmir into the shawl to see thebeautiful world realising his dream to see the world. Its taking monthsto create an expensive embroidery needle which
two pieces can never beduplicated, is finally adorned the pashminas.Pure pashmina is a rathergauzy, open weave, as the fibre cannot tolerate high tension. The mostpopular pashmina fabric is a 70%
pashmina/30% silk blend, but 50/50 isalso common. The 70/30 is tightly woven, has an elegant sheen anddrapes nicely, but is still quite soft and light-weight.
